Friends of Stewart Park 2014 was a busy year for FSP, with many small but signicant projects completed. 2014 accomplishments include: installing new plantings at the park's entrance; unveiling new interpretive signs on the park's three historic buildings; partnering with local artists Christi Sobel & Julia John to repaint the Carousel's horses; supporting the City's rebuilding of the Tea Pavilion; celebrating 4th of July reworks with the City of Ithaca; and continued collaboration with Wharton Studio Museum on its plans for a silent lm museum in the historic Wharton studio building. 2015 will, undoubtedly, be another busy and productive year for FSP with some larger-scale projects in the mix. Cayuga Waterfront Trail There were many accomplishments in the development of the trail during 2014, including: the Chris Bordoni Fitness Trailhead received a City of Ithaca Pride of Ownership Award; the last of ve trailheads was constructed this fall and culminated with a ribbon cutting and interpretive panel dedication to Stu Stein in honor of his leadership in County Tourism; and completion of the Renwick Wildwood panel with the Cayuga Bird Club. In late 2014 the bids were successfully opened for the Waterfront Trail crossings of Route 13 at Dey and Third Streets, and this project will proceed to construction early in 2015. The Waterfront Trail Initiative will also work to furnish the trail with benches and other amenities during 2015. Leadership Tompkins The Leadership Tompkins Class of 2015 began in September with 20 participants and a fully revamped program. Under leadership of facilitator Deb Mohlenho, the class has explored such topics as city government, social services, diversity and much more. The class will be participating in the Downtown Alliance's Chili Festival and providing input regarding program direction. The class continues to meet once per month until June, and wraps with a graduation dinner and the Jean McPheeters Leadership Award. Chamber Foundation News
