LOWER FALLS Taughannock Falls State Park 15ft cascading fall, easy access makes this a popular photo spot Fun Facts Trail Info Taughannock Creek makes its final plunge to the lake over a dramatic limestone ledge. Native Americans cultivated corn, pears and apples in the delta below this fall for generations prior to the arrival of settlers. The pool below the falls is a great fishing hole. View from the Gorge Trail or the Rt. 89 bridge. Gorge trail and overlook open year round. Other trails open April-Oct. 2 DIRECTIONS FROM ITHACA Take Rt. 89 north 8mi to Taughannock Falls State Park. The gorge and hiking trails are on your left. Swimming prohibited in gorge. Dogs allowed on leash. $7/car parking fee (2010). Transferable, valid all day at all NYS Parks.
