"Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I may not remember. Involve me and I will understand." Indian proverb As I step into the role of Chair of the Chamber of Commerce Board, this proverb stands out to me. I've worn a few dierent hats over the 41 years I've been working in Tompkins County, and over that time, I've been fortunate to see business from a variety of dierent perspectives. I've also been a member of the Chamber for many of those years, and as a member, grew to appreciate the many ways the organization could benet the work I was doing. However, it wasn't until I got involved by joining the Board of the Chamber that I came to understand the true depth and breadth of what the Chamber of Commerce oers to its members. I have not regretted my involvement in the Chamber for a single moment since rst becoming a member, and since stepping up onto the Board, I have enjoyed becoming even more committed to the Chamber and the work we do. The Chamber Board is a diverse group of people that truly care about how business is done in Tompkins County, and it is my honor to lead this group in the year to come. While serving on the Chamber Board may not be for every member, your involvement as a member of the Chamber is essential and makes a statement about your own organization. Your involvement and participation helps support a variety of programming and advocacy that strengthens our business community. Attend Business After Hours, engage at a Networking at Noon event, improve a skill through a Business Development class, or help advocate through our Government Aairs Committee. Treat your Chamber membership like a tool in your toolbox and use it to become involved in the business of doing business. I believe you'll nd the eort worth it and the experience truly rewarding - as I have. Carrying on Chamber Traditions 2016 Board Chair Jerry Dietz
