CO M ITHACA downtown & The Commons W ith the area's most diverse shopping, eclectic dining and biggest events, Downtown Ithaca and the Ithaca Commons pedestrian mall are a must-see for everyone visiting town. The Ithaca Commons, originally opened in 1974, is one of only a handful of pedestrian malls left in the United States. It's the centerpiece of a Nationally Registered Historic District with restored building facades, more than 100 specialty shops and an array of eclectic restaurants. In 2013, a major transformation of the Ithaca Commons began which culminates this fall with the unveiling of newly redesigned public space.
