Pulpit Falls Buttermilk Falls State Park 25ft pulpit-type fall in a natural amphitheater Fun Facts Trail Info Located just above the main falls, aptly named Pulpit Falls is the gateway to the upper gorge. Upstream, look for the 40ft shale spire of Pinnacle Rock and the many potholes in the streambed—perfect cylinders naturally carved by stones in the swirling current. View falls from Gorge Trail. 0.3mi. Moderate / Strenuous. Gorge Trail: 0.75mi. Strenuous Rim Trail: 0.75mi. Strenuous Bear Trail: 0.75mi. Moderate Lake Treman: 1.5mi. Easy Buttermilk Falls overlook open year round. Trails open April-Oct. 10 DIRECTIONS FROM ITHACA Take Rt. 13 south past Home Depot 0.2mi to the park entrance on your left. For the upper gorge, take the next left on Sand Bank Rd., go 2.5mi and turn left on W. King Rd. The upper entrance is 1.3mi on your right. Swimming permitted in the lifeguarded swim area below Buttermilk Falls.
